Pros and cons of AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is revolutionizing the world. In a developing country like Bangladesh, where technology is still largely at a nascent stage, the discussion on AI is attracting attention as much as it is a beacon of possibilities on the one hand and risks on the other. However, how AI will be accepted in Bangladesh will depend on the purpose, policy, and preparation of its use.
There are many opportunities to use AI in Bangladesh. In particular, its use in fintech, e-commerce, healthcare, education, and agriculture can create enormous potential. For example, through AI, farmers can increase agricultural production, get timely weather forecasts, and be aware of the diseases of their crops. Using AI in the health sector is possible to increase the speed and accuracy of diagnosis, especially in areas with a lack of health care. In the education sector, personalized learning systems can be created through AI, which will prepare the curriculum according to the students' internal needs and skills.
Meanwhile, the spread of AI can create major volatility in the job market. There has been a lot of debate about how effectively AI technology can destroy jobs around the world. In particular, the replacement or automation of human labor can result in the loss of jobs for many workers. For example, routine tasks, such as call center operations, warehouse management, and even some medical services, can be handled with AI, which will eliminate human work.
Besides, questions are also being raised about the impersonal crisis and the negative outlook. Without proper policies, the use of AI can exacerbate social inequality and infringe upon people's privacy. Data privacy and biased algorithms require in-depth discussion and caution.
Although AI technology has not been fully adopted in Bangladesh, the massive expansion of the ICT sector and the discussion on AI in the govt initiative have come to the fore. The demand for digital entrepreneurs, the IT sector, and data scientists has increased. However, among the best education systems in the country, training opportunities in AI are inadequate, and skills need to be enhanced.
It is necessary for the government of Bangladesh to formulate a national artificial intelligence policy and develop infrastructure to use AI technology. Forming technology regulatory bodies and creating AI ethics and data protection laws is crucial for the country.
If Bangladesh uses AI technology, it can take a strong position in the country's development and international competition. However, for this technology to have a positive impact, there needs to be a strong synergy between government, business, academia, and society. AI is not just an economic possibility; it can play an important role in creating social development and human welfare. But the risks and ethical issues that arise must be addressed to ensure technology is used for human welfare.
There are both challenges and possibilities with AI technology in Bangladesh. Proper use of this technology and adherence to appropriate policies can present significant opportunities for the country. On the other hand, if there is no proper preparation, it can also be a cause of danger. Therefore, with timely precautions and the right policies, we can develop AI as a source of energy.
